We know where it was created, the Algonquin Hotel in New York. It’s still there and still making these. We know who it was created in honour of… Dorothy Parker and the literary ’round table’ who would lunch there right through the 1930s and 40s.

These were back in the days when the Algonquin considered themselves the writers hotel, and allowed visiting authors who were in New York to stay one night free.
