This crazy drink was created for the premier of the 1922 silent Movie Blood in the Sand, that told the story of the rise, and fall, of a bullfighter.

It was inspired by the 1908 book of the same name by Vincente Ibanez. There is no record of who made the drink for the premier, and it is not until 1930 that it appears in print for the first time in the “Savoy Cocktail Book”
