Where to begin with the modern classic known as Toblerone Cocktail? Invented by Simon Difford in 2003, he originally named this delicious and candied beverage drink the Triangular Martini as a nod to the shape of the Toblerone chocolate bar. The chocolate itself was given recipe in 1908 by Swiss chocolate maker Emil Baumann; his cousin Theodor Tobler granting the name – a clever portmanteau of the family name and Torrone – and devising the shape after witnessing the pyramid-shaped pose made by the exotic dancers at the finale of a show at the Folies Bergère – a venue with tales reaching far beyond its name – featuring acts from the likes of Charlie Chaplin to Benny Hill and launching the careers of greats such as Josephine Baker and Mistinguett. The Toblerone Cocktail is nothing of the sultry sort as found in the cabaret, however is plenty indulgent, and fits for a fine dessert tipple after a show.
